WHATS NEW - RURAL DEVELOPMENT INTITIATIVES:

Panchayati Raj Training Programme

At Naya Gaon, Navjyoti started Panchayati Raj training programme for elected women representatives with the support of Ashiana Housing and Finance (India) Ltd. A total of 18 women on an average attend the workshop every month from nearby 13 villages. The topics covered were Haryana Panchayati Raj Act, gender, participatory planning and monitoring, government schemes and right to information. The training is about making them aware of their capabilities and enhancing their knowledge about the issues related to their rights.

A Step towards Water Conservation through Water Day Celebration

Rural Development Complex was heralded with voices Varsha Kaun Hai (Who is Varsha?) when Navjyoti celebrated Water Day on 23rd of March’07 sponsored by Coca Cola. The women from the SHG groups and nearby villages participated actively and prepared a skit on water conservation. There were programmes by youth and children related to the theme of water conservation. General Secretary, Dr Kiran Bedi’s speech on water conservation added more charisma to it.

Orienting the masses about NCE sources through Energy Park Project

Energy Park was set up at Rural Development Complex supported by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The objective is to promote and impart awareness on non conventional energy (NCE) sources to nearby schools, Panchayat, women of Self Help groups. A drawing competition was also organized with school children on the theme of solar energy which was sponsored by American Express in the month of March.

Sharing Experiences of SHGs with Ethiopians

A two member Ethiopian delegate visited Rural Development Complex. They went to the village Khedla and interacted with SHG groups. A total of 35 SHG women from rural participated in the meeting and shared their experiences. The Ethiopian delegate also exchanged the information about their country and SHGs formed over there.

Summer Camp Vocational Activities for Girls

A two month summer camp was organized in the months of May and June at rural development complex for computer and stitching courses. Stitching was taught to girls from nearby villages. A total of 27 girls participated. It was found that most of these girls were school drop outs and had no exposure to outside world.
