My name is Hemlata. I am a permanent resident of Kherla Village. I am a laborer and do not possess any land. We were in severe debts and did not have any way to go. I am a part of Rakhi group, which consist of total 16 members.

One day I saw some people from an organization distributing survey forms. I came to know that people from an NGO, namely Navjyoti India foundation have come to make Self Help Groups. I did not know what Self Help Group meant at that time, but since everyone was filling the forms, I did the same.

After one week, two representatives from Navjyoti, Somdutt ji and Anita ji came to our village and conducted meeting with the women who filled the forms and then formed a Self Help Group of 10 members. They gave us an overview about the group formation, about the organization and introduced themselves .They told us about the benefits of group formation and also mentioned that group can be formed without collection of money, and such kinds of groups will help to solve our personal and financial problems and problems related to the village.

The idea of money collection from each member of the group really impressed me as that money can always be utilized at the time of need. And the amount can be easily returned through small installments. Thus by taking loan from the group, we will not have to keep any land documents nor have to give anybody's guarantee as a mortgage. Keeping these things in mind, I became a member of Rakhi group.

After joining the group, representatives from Navjyoti constantly groomed me and now, I can sign my name, instead of thumb impression.

The group proved out to be a blessing in disguise when I needed money on urgent basis for my husband's eye operation. I had no way to go but my group helped me with the amount of Rs. 2000. Now I am repaying money in easy installment .Earlier I was not able to give the principle amount, but now because of our group account, I can pay the interest timely according to our group norms. I will never forget the way the group assisted me to overcome my crisis, and will always be thankful to Navjyoti and my group.
