REMEDIAL EDUCATION PROJECT :
The programme seeks to reinforce the learning of children in schools and offer them a platform for developing life skills and getting career guidance. Through offering tutorials on subjects requiring extra help, the project envisions to ensure higher retention rates and lower drop out rates especially in middle and secondary levels. It is achieved through adopting two fold strategies. First, offer them coaching in subjects to reinforce their learning in schools and secondly, keep a check on their regularity in schools and provide necessary counseling to them, their parents and the teachers depending upon the need. Besides, efforts are directed to make them productive members of society by offering them life skill education and career counseling as an important part of the project.
Aim of the project

To promote favorable environment for children to pursue education at the primary and secondary levels in order to ensure high retention and low drop out rates in formal schools.
Objectives:
To improve performance and regularity of children in schools by offering them tutorial assistance.
To offer counseling and guidance in order to enable them to maintain interest in education and deal with other kinds of problems relating to education and career.
To prevent them from deviancy by offering them options to utilize their time productively.
To equip children with right kind of information and skills to deal with issues concerning them in a proper manner by offering life skill education classes.
To influence the mindset of parents and community towards education.
To promote favorable environment for education in the community.
To advocate for the improvement of existing facilities and quality in Government schools.
Innovative aspects of the projects
The project has features that make it innovative and fruitful.
Govt NGO - community partnership The project does not run in isolation. It has a unique feature of right kind of partnership between the government schools, the organization as well as the community. The organization is directly in touch with the school authorities to understand the children better. Also, the needs of children, problems being faced are shared with the respective school teachers in a very amicable manner. Besides, a pressure group would be created from within the community by the end of two years comprising of major stakeholders who would be responsible for representing the needs of the children at the right forums. The objective would be to offer right kind of environment for children to study and grow.
Holistic approach The project adopts a holistic approach to address the issue of low retention and high drop out rate in schools. It operates at all the levels to promote favorable environment for children to pursue education. It does not only work with children by offering tutorial assistance but also work to address other issues of concern that hamper children to continue with their studies primarily mindsets of parents and the community, role of teachers as well as the perception of children towards importance of education.
Range of activities offered in the project The objectives is achieved through a wide range of activities that are carried out for children, parents, and community as well as school authorities. Besides, coaching classes, life skill education classes, exposure trips for children, interface with school authorities, parents teachers meetings, community meetings etc are carried out on regular basis.
Features of replicability It is tried that a unique model of addressing retention and drop out is developed after a period of two years, which would be replicated in other areas of similar profile as well.
Documentation of the impact Efforts are directed to have proper MIS for documenting the process as well as the impact of the interventions to be shared with fellow NGOs after the project period is over.
Target beneficiaries
The programme is running in Bawana and Holambikalan area reaching out to more than 700 children studying in Class III to Class XII
