Milestones Reached So Far:

1987
• Navjyoti de addiction center started
in Andha Mughal Police Station followed by seven others in different
Police Stations of North Delhi.
• Apradh sudhar silai kendra started at
Yamuna Pushta Slums to rehabilitate women who had a brush with law.
• Navjyoti pathshala at Yamuna Pushta
started to provide primary education to slum children later
rechristened as Navjyoti Formal School.
1988
• Navjyoti India Foundation registered
as a voluntary organization.
• 15 days detoxification Programme
started at each center, and later extended to one month.
• Vocational training center started
for women of Jahangirpuri resettlement area. Continuing education
classes for women were also started.
1989
• Kutir udyog started to provide
income-generating opportunities at Tihar jail.
1990
• Navjyoti De addiction centers
centralized at Sarai Rohilla Police Station to consolidate the
experiences of the past years.
1991
• A treatment model based on Medico –
Psycho--social and spiritual management with homeopathy and yoga
developed, standardized and adopted.
1992
• Ministry of Social Justice and
Empowerment, GOI of India, recognized the efforts of Navjyoti by
providing financial support for the de addiction center
1993
• A day care center set up to ensure
power follow up and monitoring of recovery addicts.
1994
• Tihar jail Rehabilitation project
started for the economic upliftment of women inmates.
1995
• Navjyoti Gratitude club started by
recovering addicts who were treated at Navjyoti and were now,
leading better lives.
1996
• First exhibition of tapestries made
by women inmates of Tihar under the project Weaving behind the bars
held at the Danish Ambassador’s residence.
• Navjyoti diversifies into rural
development at Bhondsi village near Gurgaon.
1997
• The Economic and Social (ECOSOC) of
United Nations Grants special consultative status to Navjyoti.
1998
• Gali School, a new innovative concept
for providing education to children and women took shape in Yamuna
Pushta.
• A bio gas plant for integrated waste
management constructed with the support of German embassy.
1999
• Drug de addiction Awareness Programme
for industrial workers started in collaboration with FICCI.
• Focal unit established in one of the
industrial units at NOIDA to aim towards workplace prevention of
drug abuse.
• United Nations awards Serge Sotiroff
Memorial Award (Vienna) to Navjyoti for outstanding contributions in
the field of international Drug Abuse prevention.
• Pilot project Children’s Education (NORAD)
supported by the Royal Norwegian Embassy started in the slums of
Yamuna Pushta.
2000
• The Royal Norwegian Embassy hands
over the new project Children’s Education and Community based
integrated Development (NORAD) aimed at elimination of child labor.
• Navjyoti shifted headquarters from
Sarai Rohilla to Yamuna Pushta to come closer to the community.
• Indian Population Project (IPP-viii)
supported by the MCD started at Yamuna Pushta and Jahangirpuri.
2001
• Communities based care and support
for PLHAs and CAAs initiated in Yamuna Pushta with the support of
MAMTA.
• A multi purpose Rural Development
Complex inaugurated to augment and centralize services provided by
the Rural Development Programme.
• National open school accredits
Navjyoti as a study center under open basic education Programme.
More than three hundred children benefited.
2002
• Dots center opened at Yamuna Pushta
for treatment of tuberculosis.
• Navjyoti health center at Yamuna
Pushta achieved the distinction of treating 1-lakh patients.
2003
• The German Development Corporation
funded a two-year project on capacity building of various
stakeholders working in the field of drug abuse on drug demand
reduction training practices adopted by Navjyoti
• Research project on studying the
efficacy of homoeopathy in treatment of withdrawals initiated under
the scheme for Extra Mural Research in ISMH&H
• A project for promoting self-reliance
of women living in various shelter homes at Nirmal Chaya started in
partnership with the corporate world and an NGO Partners In Change.
• Navjyoti joined hands with the
government in achieving the mission of Universal Elementary
Education and opened learning centers at Yamuna Pushta and
Jahngirpuri.
• Navjyoti’s own center as a Drug
Demand Reduction Training Institute inaugurated at Karala Majri, a
place in North West Part of Delhi and drug abuse treatment programme
shifted from Sarai Rohilla Police Station to Karala.
• A project on “Empowerment of women
through micro credit” initiated in rural areas with the support of
American India Foundation.
2004
• Navjyoti phased out from Sriniwaspuri
project area.
• American Embassy funded a new project
to develop Navjyoti as a Resource center.
• Yamuna Pushta slums demolished.
• Interventions initiated at newly
relocated areas of Holambi Kalan and Bawana for integrated community
development.
2005
• Libraries set up with the help of
Room to read India Trust in Bawana, Jahangipuri and Holambikalan.
• Ministry of Youth Affairs, GOI
supported the vocational training programme at Jahangirpuri.
• CAPART supported the project on
“Organization of beneficiaries” in seven villages of Sohna
Block,Naya Gaon.
• A DOTS Center was opened in Bawana
Resettlement Colony for the treatment and care of TB patients.
• A stitching center was opened in
Bawana with the support of Ladies Welfare Society, Sir Ganga Ram
Hospital.
• Polaris strengthened the Gali School
Project in rural streamlining supervision and monitoring of the
project.
2006
• A Homeopathic Dispensary started for
the community people of Karala under the Bhaagidaari Scheme of
Government of India at the Karala Majri Drug. Deaddiction Treatment
Center
• ONGC came forward for promoting self
reliance of women in water resource management by linking SHGs with
environment interventions in village Khedla of Sohna Block, Haryana.
• HPCL Sponsored the health care
of the children in Bawana under the project “Navjyot”.
• GAIL sponsored the functioning
of Self Help Groups under the women empowerment programmes.
• Smile Foundation sponsored the
functioning of remedial education and health care programme for
children of Holambi Kalan Resettlement Colony under the name of the
project “Integrated Community Development Programme”.
• Michael and Susan Dell
Foundation strengthens the interventions at Bawana and help upgrade
quality of programme significantly by supporting through the project
“Substantially improving resettled children’s education and growth
through positively improving the environment”.
2007
• As a step towards expanding the
vocational training component, a beauty culture Unit set up at
Bawana with the support from Ladies Welfare Society, Sir Ganga Ram
Hospital.
• Meeting the long felt need of
imparting computer training to children and youth, Computer lab
established in Bawana with the support from Habitat Learning centre,
India Habitat Centre.
• Sesames Workshop India enriches the
quality of teaching learning at Bawana Balwaris and Gali school by
providing educational material on literacy and health and hygiene.
• IPP VIII Dispensary, Govt of NCT of
Delhi joins hands with Navjyoti to strengthen health services in
Bawana.
• Rural Development Project diversifies
into Panchayat Training by organizing training programme for the
elected women representatives on regular basis. 12 training
workshops have already been conducted so far on issues ranging from
roles and responsibilities, leadership, decision-making, conflict
resolution, social mapping etc.
• GAIL strengthens Vocational Training
initiatives at Holambikalan.
• Halcrow Foundation strengthens women
empowerment initiatives at the Rural Development Project.
• United Nations Office of Drugs and
Crime (UNODC) partners with Navjyoti to undertake projects namely:
Community and school based primary prevention work under project G
86” and “Awareness programme for female partners of drug users under
project I- 49”.
• Energy Park set up at the Rural
Development Complex with the support of MNES. Various devices such
as solar lights, solar lanterns, solar TV and Radio, Solar cookers
etc have been installed at the centre to show case the use of solar
energy to the villagers.
