HIV AWARENESS :
 
HIV/ AIDS INTERVENTIONS: COMMUNITY BASED CARE AND SUPPORT TO PLHA/FAA/CAA

OVERALL GOAL To reduce the spread of HIV and impact of AIDS mitigated and to improve the quality of life of PLHAs/CAAs/FAAs and vulnerable children in the resettlement colony of Holambi Kalan and Holambi Kalan Village, Delhi (India)

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • To reduce the level of stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS and ensure the sustainability of the program by empowering the local service providers, community leaders, and vulnerable children (Peer Educator)
  • To ensure that community leads a healthy risk free life by promoting VCT process for early diagnosis.
  • Empowering PLHA/FAA/TB clients on home based care and improving their health status and linking them with IGP.
  • Empowering and ensuring well being of CAAs and vulnerable children’s and catering their health and psychosocial needs with specific objective focussing on peer education.
  • To prevent the spread of HIV within the community by focusing peer education involving vulnerable children through Support Group and local service providers.
GEOGRAPHICAL AREA-

  • Resettlement colony of Holambi Kalan that comprises of about 7000 households.
  • Holambi Kalan Village that comprises of 10,000 households.
ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN IN THE PROGRAM

  • Mass awareness and advocacy using effective means of communication.
  • Capacity building networking and empowering local service providers, community leaders and vulnerable children (peer educator)
  • Networking with other agencies involving in awareness in the community.
  • Intensive pre and post test counseling at organizational level.
  • Information sharing with HRG and help them in decision making w.r.t VCT
  • Involving active group of local service providers and community volunteers in promoting VCT process.
  • Life skill sessions with PLHA/FAA/TB clients on home based care.
  • Direct medical and psychosocial support.
  • Institutional care through referral and linkages.
  • Linking PLHAs/FAAs to IGP
  • Support group formation of PLHAs.
  • Dissemination of the information among the targeted vulnerable children.
  • Developing linkages with VT, educational, Drug Deaddiction institutions and shelter homes.
  • Catering to their psychosocial, medical needs of CAAs and vulnerable children.
  • Capacity building of the targeted vulnerable children with special focus on awareness generation about HIV/AIDS in the community.
  • Peer education involving vulnerable children
  • Capacity building and empowering active local service providers/RMPs
