Urban - HIV / AIDS »
India is one of the countries with a very high rate of those infected with HIV/AIDS. The majority of the infected people are under the age of 35 years and most of them women. In the northern region, the number continues to grow by the day. Some of the reasons for this steady growth can be attributed to reckless behavior, seasonal employment, migration workers, absence of right information, prostitution, unhygienic medical services.
Sometimes even when treatment is available, nearby people may not opt for it due to the fear of social stigma. In many cases, the illness goes untreated for a long time.
HIV/ AIDS is a disease. It knows no religion and does not limit to any social group or strata. Timely and corrective help can often come as a savior. A dignified life is possible even after infection if the right support is provided.
Navjyoti's intervention in the area of HIV/ AIDS started in the year 2001 from Yamuna Pushta. The project aims to spread awareness and provide community counseling. Efforts in the Holambi Kalan resettlement colony, where the project has been active, have had a good impact.
Tie ups with hospitals are established to ensure that patients from these areas get timely treatment and rehabilitative services.
