PROJECT COMPONENTS

The project is implemented at two levels
1. Direct service delivery
2. Strengthening services through advocacy and training

1. DIRECT SERVICE DELIVERY

There is a need to provide primary health care facilities and referral services to the community. Therefore, following interventions are run

1. General OPD

Daily OPD intends to provide curative health care and referral services to patients from the community. Daily screening of patients at the OPD also gives an idea about the prevalent diseases and imminent outbreaks, which would help in taking anticipatory measure.

2. School Health Programme

Navjyoti is reaching out to more than 3500 children through various education interventions. These children are provided free medical check up and health education on regular basis. The idea is to go for early detection of diseases among children and also encourage parents for positive health seeking behaviour.

3. Awareness generation and sensitization

One of the major components of the programme is building awareness, perception and perspectives on various health issues and imminent health hazards. It intends to provide right information about different health related issues like personal hygiene, sanitation, water borne diseases, maternal and child health, drug abuse etc. the objective is achieved through interacting with individuals and groups in home visits, community meetings PTMs etc. Audio Visual health talks, role plays, workshops etc are resorted to generate mass awareness.

4. Health Camps

Health camps to provide awareness and treatment to maximum number of people against various diseases are organized in liasoning with other govt, pvt and non govt institutes. The main aim is to offer services for those ailments for which limited facilities are available to the inhabitants. Thus, camps on antenatal facilities, family planning, disability, skin eye, drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, immunization will be organized.

II. STRENGTHENING HEALTH CARE FACILITIES THROUGH ADVOCACY AND TRAINING

Right from the beginning the emphasis of the organization is on ensuring sustainability of the interventions. Therefore, several activities are carried out towards this direction in this project as well.

1. Advocacy for improving the existing facilities

Extensive advocacy is undertaken in order to improve the health services provided by the state as well as improving sanitation in the community. Visits to the concerned govt departments, filing petitions/applications, rally, awareness drives, janta darbars etc are some of the mechanisms that are adopted for the same.

2. Developing and training health watch committees

The organization has identified several community leaders who are organized into community based groups and health watch committees. They are capacitated gradually to enable them to act as agents of change to facilitate health care services, referrals as well as generate awareness.

3. Training of local practitioners

The local medical practitioners in the community are also identified and treated on several issues esp maternal and child health, family planning and HIV/AIDS.
