COMMUNITY MOBILIZATION :
Promoting Sustainable Community Interventions through mobilizing people’s Participation and advocacy
PROJECT GOAL
Empower people in the areas of skills acquiring, knowledge and experience to take greater responsibility for their development.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
• Develop people’s capacities and skills to negotiate and seek the resources and changes, which they require to improve their lives.
• Sensitize local people to enable them to play a part and develop a stake in development programmes and projects.
• Generate mass awareness in the communities in order to broaden their knowledge base on relevant issues of development especially concerning women and children.
• Strengthen service delivery in the area by undertaking extensive advocacy at the micro and macro level.
PROJECT COMPONENTS
The project are divided into three components namely
1. Organization and training of CBOs
2. Advocacy for improving living conditions in the community in the areas esp those related to infrastructure, sanitation, education and health
3. Awareness and sensitization of the community
1. Organization and training of CBOs
Navjyoti had been working with the community for the last sixteen years and shares a good credibility. As part of the community mobilization, few community based groups have been organized namely school supervision committees, child watch committees, women’s groups, health watch committees etc. However, since only two years have gone in working with these groups, identification and mobilization of active people has only taken place so far.
Efforts are thus be directed in further streamlining these groups and organizing extensive capacity building sessions for them to enable them to advocate for the needs of the community.
Activities undertaken
• Identification of stakeholders
• Reorganization of community based groups namely school supervision committees, child watch committees, health watch committees, sanitation committee etc.
• Formulation of roles and responsibilities of each group
• Developing vision and strategy for each of these group
• Planning and conducting orientation sessions with the groups on specific issues
• Exposure visit to increase their knowledge and perspective.
2. Advocacy to improve living conditions in the area
Since both the project areas are of recent settlement, lot of things still need to be put in place to make it better place to live.
Stringent advocacy efforts are, therefore, required in order to improve especially sanitation, infrastructure, education and health facilities.

• Mapping the needs of the community
• Strengthening networking with concerned govt agencies
• Organizing janta darbars to facilitate interface between govt and the community
• Strengthening referrals
• Filing petitions and follow ups
3. Awareness and sensitization
In order to bring about a sustained change, the perception of people needs to be worked upon. Consequently, extensive awareness and sensitization campaigns are carried out to generate awareness among general community on relevant issues esp those related to women and children. The methods would mostly include door to door visits, nukkad nataks, corner meetings, rallies, cleanliness drives, audio visual shows etc.
