ACTIVITIES

Learning starts at birth and every child has a right to a
stimulating, healthy and secure learning environment. The
integrated approach of Balwari looks at the challenge of child
development and interweaves nutrition, education and health as
essential components for holistic development of a child. Creche
workers trained in the concept of early child care and
development provides special care to the children.
The Centres
Colourful walls, melodious songs, nutritious snacks and the feel
of different textures provides a feast for the senses. Stringing
beads and building blocks forms links and the foundation to
their development.
Education
The “pre-schoolers” are engaged in the process of learning
through play, music, drama, puppets, stories and songs. This
along with group play-activity enhances their cognitive,
social/emotional as well as physical/motor development, which
prepare them for school in more ways than one. Toys appropriate
for this age group and attractive teaching aids help them to
“play and learn”.
School Admission and Support
As a logical step ahead Navjyoti puts in their efforts to enroll
the Balwari students into formal school. Parents are provided
with counseling and support to secure admission and continue
sending their children to formal schools.
Nutrition
Ensuring fulfilment of the nutritional requirement of the
children is of paramount importance as the children because of
their weak economic background are unable to provide their
children with the essential nutrition. The nutrition provides
seeks to fulfill their essential nutritional intake. The
children in the balwari are provided daily nutritional
supplement in the form of fruits and biscuits. The parents are
also educated on how to provide essential low cost nutrition.
Health Care
Regular health check ups and immunization ensure prevention and
cure of various diseases. Every child enrolled at the balwari
are given medical attention required. School health programme
ensures complete medical check-up once every two months. Cases
needing urgent and specialized medical attention were referred
to govt and private hospitals.
The common goal of each of the activities is to develop the
child’s self-confidence by giving opportunities to explore the
external world, discover their talents and have fun with his/her
peers.
