ADULT LITERACY :

PROJECT GOAL

Empowering women by ensuring women and girls their right to education

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

1. To impart literacy and numeracy skills to 100 women to make them functionally literate.

2. Capacity building of the trainers from the adult education programme for community mobilization and advocacy

3. To promote general awareness, self – confidence and ability to think critically and fostering decision-making skills.

TARGET BENEFICIARIES

360 women over a period of one year

ACTIVITIES

(i) 12 batches are run in 2 shifts every day

(ii) One batch is be trained for a period of six months. Thus, 24 batches are made literate on one year.

(iii) Each batch covers a total of 15-20 women

(iv) Thus, 24 batches cover a total of 360 women.

(v) Teaching material and three graded primers, with word method are used for learners.

(vi) Proper lesson-plan and stage-to stage progress are developed and implemented by the trainer keeping in mind learner-teacher convenience and need and preference of the learner.

(vii) We are also introducing the concept of Adult Literacy through computers in one of the centers in Bawana.

(viii) Awareness meetings on various issues of women development and child welfare are a regular feature.

(ix) Audio visual shows are also organized regularly on the relevant issues.

(x) Continuous practice is followed under the following three levels:

Level 1:
• Read and write vowels, letters and word formation.
• Read and write numbers upto 50
• Write one’s own name.

Level 2:

• Read and write sentences using letters and vowels.
• Read and write numbers upto 100 and do simple addition and subtraction upto 100.
• Write names of family members and one’s address.

Level 3:

• Read and comprehend a small passage, road signs, simple messages, and newspaper headings.
• Compute simple problems involving multiplication and division.
• Apply skills of writing and numeracy in day-to-day activities such as currency, metric units of weights, measures etc.

(v) Appraisal of the programme are done to assess strengths and weaknesses and devise remedial action for the improvement of the programme. Evaluation is also done after the completion of each primer.
