Urban - Adult Literacy »
Adult literacy is an integral part of women empowerment. The foundation of this initiative was laid in 1992 at Yamuna Pushta. Under the aegis of this program, women are trained to read, write and understand mathematics. For 6 months they are trained as per 3 primers of National Literacy Mission. The 6 month program helps in making these women more confident. The functional literacy that they are equipped with at the end of the course ensures that they can live better and no one takes them for a ride in everyday money transactions. This also enables them to become more aware of their rights. When these women are educated they are able to make informed choices for their children and themselves. As a result of this program, the awareness level rises about issues like family planning, health, sanitation, education, economic empowerment or any other avenue.
At present 180 women are enrolled across 12 centers at Bawana.
